Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Medicine Symposium

This symposium is being presented by the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and WAAM. It will be held on two days, January 21 and 22, 2012. The UC Davis Wildlife and Aquatic Animal Medicine Club will be holding a two-day symposium with both an aquatics and terrestrial themed day with necropsy wet labs on both days. We have twelve speakers from institutions across California including Sea World, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Wildlife Health Center, The Marine Mammal Center, California Academy of Sciences, Wildlife Health Center, and Sacramento Zoo. An online webcast of the symposium (CE credit pending) will also be available.

Basic Wildlife Rehabilitation - IWRC 1AB

This class is scheduled for March 10-11, Saturday and Sunday at Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center at 21900 Pacific Coast highway, Huntington Beach, CA 92646 (714)-374-5587. The class is CE Hours: 13
This is an introductory course for beginning wildlife rehabilitation , or novice and experienced rehabilitators seeking formal education. Lecture topics include: introduction to wildlife rehabilitation, basic anatomy and physiology, calculating drug dosages, handling and physical restraint, thermoregulation, stress, basic shock cycle, initial care and physical examination, nutrition and associated diseases, standards for housing, zoonoses, euthanasia criteria and release criteria. lab topics include gavage (tube-feeding), physical restraint, intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, physical exams, limb immobilizations and weighing. Laboratory procedures are performed on cadavers.

Cardiopulmonary Cerebral Resusitation in the Small Animal Patient

VSPN- Cource Description: This course is designed to review current theory and practice of CPCR in the small animal hospital. This course will focus on veterinary technician interventions and skills used to identify patients at risk for arrest, the arresting patient, procedures and protocols to follow, drug administration, compression technique, and online drill scenarios at the culmination of the course.
The course will consist of three (3) Real Time Sessions of ninety (90) minutes each, supplemental library materials, interactive message board discussions, and a mandatory end-of-course test. Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to be considered for a course certificate of completion.

Chemical Immobilization of Animals

Our training program is presented over a 2 day period. It consists of 14 hours of multimedia/ lecture/ PowerPoint/ video presentation, followed by 2 hours of "Hands On" training where participants are divided into small groups and are taught how to safely use blowguns, long range projectors, darts, human protective safety equipment, and dart associated radio-tracking devices.Our program has been presented since 1989, and is considered by US government agencies to be the standard in Chemical Immobilization training. Cost for this workshop is $625 for early registration and $675 for general registration. Those who have attended our workshop previously may attend again as a refresher for $375.
